Semenyo: Vieira’s verdict after Arsenal game

Arsenal FC legend Patrick Vieira has delivered his verdict on the impact of Antoine Semenyo on Manchester City FC.

The Frenchman skippered the Gunners during their glory years over two decades ago before joining Juventus FC in Italy.

The former Gunners captain eventually returned to the Premier League to sign for Manchester City towards the twilight of his career.

Arsenal legend analyses form of Semenyo

Now an established coach and Sky Sports TV pundit, Vieira watched Semenyo in action against Arsenal on Sunday in what was billed as the Premier League’s decisive run-in match.

Giving his post-match pitch-side analysis, the former Crystal Palace manager credited the Black Stars winger for playing an instrumental role in Manchester City’s revival.

“He has been one of the best players in the Premier League since January,” he said. “He came into the team with a strong character and personality. He has been scoring goals, and he has been playing in all the games.”

The Ghanaian winger has been one of the outstanding players for the Citizens this season. He has played a key role in the dramatic resurgence of Pep Guardiola’s men into the Premier League title race.

Contribution of Semenyo to Man City

On Sunday, Semenyo was in the thick of things for Manchester City as they defeated Arsenal 2-1 to reduce their lead to within three points.

Overall, the former Bournemouth FC star has scored seven goals and provided two assists for the Citizens.

Guardiola’s men have a game in hand and face Burnley FC on Wednesday; hence could go level on points with the Gunners.

The Ghanaian did not score at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, but his runs and ability to take on defenders on the right flank stretched Arsenal’s defence. Rayan Cherki and Erling Haaland scored in either half for Manchester City in between Kai Havertz’s strike.
