Tendayi Darikwa etches his name in EFL folklore

Zimbabwean defender Tendayi Darikwa has etched his name in the folklore of English football following an outstanding season with Lincoln FC.

The 34-year-old has been named in the English Football League (EFL) One Team of the Season after helping The Imp secure promotion to the second tier EFL Sky Bet Championship.

The on-and-off Warriors full-back was named in the best XI of the year alongside team-mates—goalkeeper George Wickens, defender Sonny Bradley and midfielder Jack Moylan—during the EFL Awards ceremony held on Sunday.

Darikwa inspires Lincoln City FC

The quartet received the recognition for playing key roles for the Imps as they secured automatic promotion to the Championship. Lincoln City FC coach Skubala also scooped the League One Manager of the Year.

“Everyone at Lincoln City FC would like to congratulate Sonny, Jack, George, Tendayi and Michael on their deserved recognition,” reads the club’s statement.

The Zimbabwean was also nominated for Lincoln City FC’s 2025-2026 Player of the Season Award. Fans can vote for the Zimbabwean via the club’s website.

One more nomination for Zimbabwean

Darikwa has earned the nomination alongside, George Wickens, Adam Reach, Adam Jackson, Ryley Towler, Sonny Bradley, Tom Hamer, Tom Bayliss, Conor McGrandles, Dom Jeffries, Ivan Varfolomeev, Reeco Hackett, James Collins, Jack Moylan, Rob Street, Ben House and Freddie Draper.

The former Burnley FC defender has made 48 appearances, scored four goals and registered three assists for the Imps this season.

The Nottingham-born player previously steered Wigan Athletic to the League One title in the 2021/22 season.
