Turkish Cup: Adamo Nagalo and Konyaspor shock Fenerbahçe

Konyaspor’s impressive run of results continued on Tuesday with a stunning 1-0 victory over Istanbul giants Fenerbahçe to reach the semifinal of the Turkish Cup.

Burkina Faso national team defender Adamo Nagalo and the Konyaspor defensive unit put in another impressive performance for their third consecutive clean sheet. After holding off the Fener attack for 120 minutes, the hosts were rewarded with a penalty kick in the final moments of extra-time.

After a header on goal was saved, substitute forward Blaž Kramer was pulled down as he attempted to reach the loose ball. Marko Jevtović made no mistake from the spot to complete a shock result, extending his club’s unbeaten streak to eight matches in all competitions.

Burkina Faso star continues successful loan at Konyaspor

And Nagalo has done brilliantly to earn his way into the Konyaspor XI. He provided seven clearances on Tuesday while winning over half of his duels. Nagalo’s combination of pace and strength have made him a perfect central defensive partner with experienced club captain Adil Demirbağ.

He also has fellow African players as company with Congolese forward Jackson Muleka and Republic of Congo international Yhoan Andzouana at the club.

It was set to be a disastrous 2025-26 season for the former Right to Dream Academy graduate, who fell completely out of the reckoning at Dutch giants PSV and failed to make an appearance during the first half of the campaign. During the January transfer window, the promising central defender moved on loan to his current club in a desperate attempt to salvage his season.

While it was difficult to establish himself after arriving mid-season, Nagalo is now a regular contributor during a critical stretch. The club from the Central Anatolia region have leaped up the Süper Lig table after previous concerns about being drawn into a relegation fight.

There is not much left to play for in the league with relegation worries now extinguished. However, the cup provides an opportunity for Konyaspor to sneak into UEFA club competition next season if they can win the competition. They will face the winner of Thursday’s clash between Beşiktaş and Alanyaspor in the semifinals, which will take place in mid-May.

For Nagalo, he will hope to continue his successful loan. There is no option for a permanent purchase, but more strong performances could allow him to receive another opportunity at PSV or generate interest for a transfer to another top-level European club.
