Ghana legend Asamoah Gyan has opened up on why he has not ventured into full time coaching.
Gyan, who holds the record of Ghana’s all-time top scorer with 51 goals, earned his UEFA License B badge in 2022 during a six-day residential course organized by the Football Association of Wales [FAW].

The badge allows him to act as a head coach for amateur football clubs, youth teams up to age 16, and assistant coach at professional club levels.
In a chat with some youth coaches during the Milo U-13 tournament at the Essipong Stadium in Takoradi, Gyan explained why he is yet to go into full time coaching.
“The reason why I haven’t started my coaching is that, it’s all about dedication.
“You may have a coach who is into other businesses so he would hurriedly execute his work and leave to attend to other things,” he spoke to some youth team coaches during the Milo U-13 tournament at the Essipong Stadium in Takoradi.
“But if you are dedicated to coaching, you will have time to teach the kids.
“I have a UEFA License B but why am I not into coaching, because I know business will not permit me to have that dedication.
“If I’m ready to coach, I will fully dedicate myself and coach because it’s something you need to focus and teach.
Gyan, 40, has chalked some interesting career records despite failing to win a major trophy at national team level.
His six goal tally makes him the record African top scorer in the history of the FIFA World Cup, a tournament he has featured three times in 2006, 2010 and 2014.
The former Sunderland striker, who played at the 2004 Summer Olympics, has represented the Black Stars in seven Africa Cup of Nations (2008, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2017 and 2019), helping them finish in third in 2008 and as runners-up in 2010 and 2015.
Gyan, who started his senior career at Liberty Professionals, had stints in Italy with Udinese, Modena before signing for Ligue 1 side Rennes.
Sunderland snapped him up in 2010 with a loan spell at Al Ain before moving permanently in 2012, spending three seasons in the Gulf region.
The 2010 BBC African Footballer of the Year went on to play for China’s Shanghai SIPG, Shabab Al Ahli of UAE, Kayserispor in Turkey and India’s NorthEast United before returning home to sign for Legon Cities then in the Ghana Premier League.
