Power Dynamos first assistant coach Linos Makwaza has made the club’s ambitions clear ahead of their highly anticipated ABSA Cup semifinal clash against Mufulira Wanderers, declaring that the team is determined to end its long wait for the trophy.
Speaking during a pre-match media briefing at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium on Saturday, Makwaza expressed confidence in the squad’s readiness despite a demanding fixture schedule ahead of the clash on Sunday.

Makwaza revealed careful squad rotation has been key to maintaining fitness levels.
“We have prepared well for Mufulira Wanderers. The games have been coming thick and fast, but we have managed the players properly,” said Makwaza.
“Mufulira Wanderers are a very good and youthful side. We are not going to underrate them. We will approach the game with the seriousness it deserves,” he added.
Dynamos captain Salulani Phiri echoed his coach’s sentiments, underlining the team’s broader ambitions this season.
“We want to go all the way by winning both the league and the ABSA Cup,” said Phiri.
‘Mighty’ Mufulira Wanderers coach Lameck Banda acknowledged the challenge ahead and described Dynamos as the team of the moment that is currently dominating the league race.
“Power are doing well so far and are almost running away with the league title. While they beat us at Shinde, everyone who watched that game saw that they struggled to get a 1-0 victory,” said Banda.
Wanderers captain Patson Kwataine said the team is fully prepared and has the character to contain Power Dynamos.
Dynamos will face Mufulira Wanderers in Saturday’s early kickoff, with the winner securing a place in the 2026 ABSA Cup final. The second semifinal will see Chirundu United take on Red Arrows in what promises to be an intriguing encounter.
Chirundu coach Gaston Chilekwa played down his side’s impressive run, which includes victories over Premier League sides Kabwe Warriors and Zanaco, insisting that past results will count for nothing.
“We have prepared our players both mentally and physically, emphasising that Red Arrows are a strong side that must be approached with caution,” said Chilekwa.
Meanwhile, Red Arrows assistant coach Francis Kombe said his team has been preparing to face any opponent since entering the competition.
“We know Chirundu have good young players and have done well in this campaign. But our motivation is clear—winning this cup could give us a chance to play continental football next year,” he said.
