“On Friday, April 24, 2026, at the Amahoro Stadium, the Rwanda Premier League signed a five-year partnership agreement with its partner, Bank of Kigali (BK), worth 3 billion 250 million Frw,” reads the statement translated from French.
“Bank of Kigali was named champion, and as of today [Friday], its name has been changed to BK Pro League.”
In a separate statement, the bank described the partnership with the league as a game changer for the East Africana nation’s football.
“For Bank of Kigali, this partnership is part of a broader commitment to supporting Rwandans in every walk of life. Having previously backed sports such as basketball and cycling, the bank now turns to football, becoming ‘Banki ya Ruhago,’ a bank for the nation’s most followed game, as the next frontier for impact,” reads the statement.
“This moment builds on the steady progress made by the Rwanda Premier League in recent years to raise the profile of local football. The launch of the BK Pro League represents the next phase, focused on strengthening the league’s financial base, supporting clubs, and deepening the connection between football and its fans.”
The RPL has changed its name three weeks after unveiling a new logo reflecting the growth and aspirations of the country’s football.
Speaking to the league’s media, RPL Chief Executive Officer Jules Karangwa shared the story behind the new logo, saying it reflects unity, growth and diversity.
Designer Kudra Nshimiyimana has explained the concept behind the fresh logo depicting the Rwanda shield, a ball and mountains. The new logo has replaced the previous one launched in October 2023.
RPL said the logo embodies the goals and values of the league while also capturing the excitement of its viewers.
The RPL comprises 18 teams and the ultimate champion represents the country in the CAF Champions League. APR FC, Rayon Sports FC, guest participants Al Hilal Omdurman and Al Merrikh are among the league’s giants.
