The semifinal was a tightly contested affair with few clear chances. Mufulira Wanderers started brightly and applied early pressure but struggled to sustain it as the Power defence stood tall and showcased its experience.
Dynamos gradually settled into the game, though neither side could find a breakthrough in open play. Wanderers showed early intent, while Power responded with set-piece threats, but both defences firmly held on.
Around the midway point of the first half, Wanderers came close through a dangerous cross that forced a desperate clearance off international defensive linchpin Dominic Chanda, highlighting the fine margins in the match.
Dynamos also created moments of concern for their opponents. A well delivered ball into the box caused panic in the Wanderers 18-yard area, but the Wanderers goalkeeper was equal to the task as he reacted quickest to deny a lurking ball.
The contest remained balanced, with both teams showing they were cautious and tactically disciplined.
The closest either side came to scoring arrived in the second half when Chifundo Mphasi struck a superb free kick that crashed against the crossbar, leaving the goalkeeper desperately grasping for a save. It was a moment that summed up the narrow gap between success and frustration as both sides remained frustrated for an opener.
In search of a breakthrough Dynamos coach Osward Mutapa made several tactical changes, introducing fresh legs to add pace and creativity. Despite these adjustments, neither team managed to find the decisive goal, and the match ended goalless in regulation time.
The game was ultimately decided by penalties, were the team’s experienced Goalkeeper, Lawrence Mulenga, proved decisive. He made two crucial saves to deny Wanderers, while Dynamos converted their spot-kicks with composure to secure victory and a place in the final against arch nemesis Red Arrows.
Dynamos will now shift focus back to the MTN Super League as they prepare for their upcoming fixture against Zanaco FC, while keeping their eyes firmly set on completing a memorable double.
