Bensebaini matches historic Bundesliga milestone for Algerian players

Algerian international Ramy Bensebaini etched his name into the history of the Bundesliga after becoming joint-top Algerian scorer in the competition.

The defender played a key role in Borussia Dortmund’s 3-0 victory over SC Freiburg in Round 31, scoring one goal and providing an assist in a standout performance.

With his latest goal, the Constantine-born player reached 25 Bundesliga goals, equaling the record goals for Algerian players in Bundesliga, previously held by Ishak Belfodil, who made his mark with Werder Bremen and TSG Hoffenheim.

According to the league’s official website, Bensebaini was unaware of the milestone at the time. Reacting after the match, he said: “I didn’t know it was a historic goal. It’s a nice achievement, and I’m very happy.”

A product of the Paradou AC academy, Bensebaini continues to underline his status as one of Algeria’s most successful exports to European football, now sharing a remarkable record at the highest level of German football.
