Fiston Mayele explained that Pyramids FC’s victory over Al Ahly SC was essential to keep their Nile Egyptian League title hopes alive, especially after the recent loss to Zamalek SC.
Speaking to ON Sport, Mayele said:
“The Zamalek match was difficult, and therefore it was mandatory for us to win against Al Ahly to remain in the competition for the league title.”
He added:
“It happens to any striker in the world that his level drops, but I found support from the entire club and my teammates. Scoring a brace against Al Ahly will help me finish the season well.”
Mayele concluded:
“We have no option but to win all the league matches to finish the league in the best possible way.”
The Congolese striker continued his strong record, as Al Ahly became the team he has scored against the most in Egypt with four goals. This also marks his second brace this season.
He opened the scoring in the 70th minute with a low shot after a defensive error, before adding the second in the 77th minute after capitalizing on another mistake.
With this result, Pyramids raised their tally to 47 points in second place, while Al Ahly remain third with 44 points. Meanwhile, Zamalek SC sit at the top of the table with 50 points.
