The president of Mozambique league champions União Desportiva de Songo (UD Songo) has exited the hot seat, two days before their Moçambola title defence starts.
Francisco Xavier Dos Santos bade farewell to fellow officials, players and coaches for the Moçambola league holders at a ceremony held at its club house on Wednesday, 29 April 2026.

He visited the team’s training sessions and said he goodbyes to the players and coaches, ending a seven-year trophy-laden legacy.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the players and coaches hailed the outgoing leader for leaving “a legacy of professionalism, vision and commitment to the club’s growth.”
“Thank you for your trust, for your constant support and for always believing in us, even in the most challenging moments,” reads the club’s statement.
“Enjoy this well-deserved retirement with the certainty that your contribution will never be forgotten. His legacy will live on the field, in every game, in every victory.”
Under his seven-year tenure, UD Songo won the domestic league titles in 2019 and 2025, Mozambican Cup in 2019 and 2025 and the National Super Cup in 2023.
UD Songo have since named Dr Carlos as the new president to replace Dos Santos. Dr Bernardina Inacio is the vice-president responsible for finance while Filipe Machocho is another vice-president for competitions.
In a statement, the Tete-based club described the change in leadership as the beginning of “a new cycle with ambition, responsibility and focus to continue elevating the name of Songo of Mozambican football.”
The new leadership is tasked with steering the ship ahead of the start of the 2026 edition of Moçambola league.
