It is a typical case of a new contract and a new car for Mozambique national team coach Francisco Queriol Conde Júnior (Chiquinho Conde).
In March 2026, the 60-year-old earned a contract extension after the Mambas’ historic appearance at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals in Morocco.
Now, Mozambique car dealers Caetano Equipamentos presented Conde with a new ride on Thursday, 16 April 2026 to motivate him as he prepares for the 2027 AFCON group-stage qualifying matches.
The Volkswagen suppliers provided the 2025 AFCON mentor with the car as part of its partnership with the Mozambican Football Federation (FMF).
In a statement, the federation says the provision of the motor vehicle signals the renewal of their sponsorship agreement with Caetano Equipamentos. The new agreement runs from 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2027.
This initiative is part of Caetano Equipamentos’ strategy to reposition the Volkswagen brand in Mozambique by leveraging the power of football.
During the ceremony, Caetano Equipamentos board chairperson Paulo said they provided the coach to cement their partnership with FMF.
Conde said the car will improve his mobility as he scouts for talent ahead of the 2027 AFCON qualifiers.
“It’s a privilege to be associated with such a strong brand,” he said.
The former Mambas striker is credited with steering Mozambique to the 2023 and 2025 AFCON finals. In the last edition held in Morocco, Mozambique lost 1-0 to Ivory Coast and Cameroon (2-1) before beating Gabon 3-2 for the first-ever victory at the tournament.
The single win secured the Mambas a Round-of-16 berth, again for the first time. Eventually, Mozambique lost 4-0 to Nigeria to exit the AFCON finals.
Taking his turn, FMF president Feizal Ismael Sidat praised the company’s gesture, saying the car would go a long way in motivating the coach.
“We thank Caetano Equipamentos for this gesture. We believe it is important and timely to give our coach the necessary conditions so that he can work and achieve the results we all desire,” said Sidat.
FMF and Caetano Moçambique’s partnership is a good example of collaboration between the sports and business sectors.
