Young talent Jorthy Mokio has decided to represent DR Congo national football team on the international stage, delivering a major boost to the Leopards ahead of the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup.
According to transfer specialist Sacha Tavolieri, the talented young Ajax star has chosen to switch his international allegiance from Belgium’s youth setup to the country of his Congolese roots.
Born in Belgium to Congolese heritage, Mokio had previously represented Belgium at Under-21 level, making six appearances and scoring twice. However, the midfielder-defender has now opted to pursue his senior international career with DR Congo, with hopes of featuring for the Leopards at this summer’s World Cup.

The teenager began his development with K.A.A. Gent before joining the Ajax academy in 2024. After only one season with the youth ranks, he was promoted to the first team last summer and has quickly established himself as a regular starter for AFC Ajax.
This season, Mokio has featured in 34 matches across all competitions, scoring four goals and providing three assists.
