Malawi’s FDH Bank Premiership: Wanderers, Bullets off mark

Malawi league champions Mighty Wanderers FC got their 2026 FDH Premiership season off to a 2-1 winning start over Creck Sporting Club on Sunday, while FCB Big Bullets collected their first maximum points of the season.

The season officially kicked off on 25 April 2026, but the defending champions were unable to kickstart their title defence against Karonga United in Blantyre on that day.

This was due to a standoff that ensued between the Super League of Malawi and their mother body, the Football Association of Malawi, over the former’s choice of uncertified Kamuzu Stadium for the official opening activities, including the game.

Now with dust settling, Wanderers, who are also called the Nomads, travelled to Aubrey Dimba Stadium in Mchinji on the western border with Zambia, to launch their title bid against Creck Sporting Club.

How Malawi’s Wanderers overcame Creck Sporting Club

Coach Bob Mpinganjira’s side got a perfect start to the game as newly acquired striker Lameck Mithi opened the scoring with five minutes to the break when he connected right-back Stanley Sanudi’s delivery.

In the second-half, coach Elia Kananji’s side equalised through Laurent Banda who made the most of sloppy defending in the 72nd minute before forward Promise Kamwendo finally restored Wanderers’ lead with nine minutes to full time to go sixth in the standings.

Elsewhere, Bullets edged MAFCO FC 1-0 in Mwanza District which borders Mozambique, thanks to Vitumbiko Phiri’s own goal after a ball floated into the box had caused confusion in the visitors’ defence.

Silver Strikers lead FDH Bank Premiership table

Elsewhere, Karonga United suffered a 1-2 loss to Masters FC who scored through Stain Davie and Philemon Ndlovu in either half in between Godfrey Sibale’s strike at Karonga Stadium. In another game, Civil Service United beat Goshen City Dedza Dynamos 1-0, courtesy of Madalitso Maso’s seventh minute strike.

Silver Strikers lead the 16-member log table with six points after a perfect start in the opening two games, including Saturday’s 4-1 victory over Moyale Barracks FC.
