The NBC Premier League resumes today with two important fixtures expected to have a major impact on both the race for continental football and the battle to avoid slipping closer to the relegation zone.

The match is scheduled to kick off at 16:00 East African Time, with Azam FC targeting maximum points as they continue their push for a top two finish and qualification for CAF interclub competitions next season.

Azam FC have enjoyed an impressive campaign so far and remain unbeaten after 21 league matches. The Ice Cream Makers sit third on the table with 43 points, having recorded 11 wins and 10 draws.

Their consistency throughout the season has kept them firmly in the title conversation, although they continue to trail Simba SC and Yanga SC in the standings.

Hosts TRA United, meanwhile, have also shown resilience this season and currently occupy sixth place with 30 points from 21 matches. The Arusha-based side has collected eight wins, six draws and seven defeats, making them a difficult opponent, especially at home.

Azam FC will head into the encounter with confidence after defeating TRA United 2-0 in the first round meeting earlier this season. In the last five meetings between the sides, Azam have won three matches, one ended in a draw and TRA United claimed one victory.

Speaking ahead of the match, Azam FC head coach Florent Ibenge admitted his team expects a difficult challenge in Arusha.

“This is going to be a very difficult match for us because every team is fighting for points at this stage of the season,” said Ibenge.

The Congolese tactician added that his side must remain focused tactically and mentally if they are to secure another important result away from home.

Azam will also rely on the creativity of midfielder Feisal Salum, who has been outstanding this season with 10 goals and eight assists.

Meanwhile, another crucial encounter will take place later in the evening when Namungo FC host Mashujaa FC at 18:30 hours.

The clash is expected to be highly competitive as both teams continue battling to move away from danger in the league standings.

Mashujaa FC currently sit ninth on the table with 25 points from 21 matches, while Namungo FC are placed 10th with 23 points from the same number of games.

The two sides are only narrowly above the relegation zone, with the team currently occupying the danger area sitting on 22 points. As a result, today’s match could prove crucial in shaping the survival hopes of both clubs as the season enters a decisive stage.
