Zimbabwean champions suffer Musona, Billiat injury blow

The reigning Zimbabwean league champions, Scottland FC, are grappling with significant injury concerns ahead of their high-stakes weekend assignment, with Knowledge Musona and Khama Billiat both ruled out of action.

The Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) titleholders will be forced to navigate Saturday’s crucial encounter against FC Platinum without the services of their most influential figures, ex-Kaizer Chiefs stars Musona and Billiat.

SCOTTLAND FC HIT BY INJURY CRISIS

Scottland FC head coach Norman Mapeza has officially confirmed to the media that the star-studded duo, along with three other key squad members, will be unavailable for the demanding away fixture.

According to the veteran tactician, both Billiat and Musona picked up debilitating knocks during last Sunday’s intense clash against Simba Bhora in Harare. Consequently, they have been ruled out alongside the midfield trio of Kingsley Mureremba, Tadiwa Chakuchichi, and Mthokozisi Msebe.

“Knowledge finished the previous match with a badly swollen ankle, while Kingsley is also struggling with an ankle problem. Chakuchichi remains sidelined, and Msebe will not be involved in this particular tie,” Mapeza explained.

“Khama is also out of contention as he is currently battling a groin injury. We have been closely monitoring the physical condition of both Khama and Knowledge throughout the week, but they simply aren’t ready.”

While Musona has featured somewhat sparingly for the defending champions this season—with Mapeza often rotating his attacking resources—the holders will undoubtedly feel the void left by the inspirational Billiat.

THE IMPACT OF KHAMA BILLIAT IN THE CASTLE LAGER PSL

The former Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs talisman has been shoulders above the rest, shoulderig the primary scoring responsibility for the champions since his high-profile return to Zimbabwean football.

At 35 years of age, Billiat is not only the club’s leading marksman with an impressive six goals in just 10 appearances, but he also currently sits as the league’s joint-top goalscorer overall.

The former Ajax Cape Town forward was the lone scorer when the titleholders suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat to Simba Bhora FC last Sunday. That result marked their first loss in 10 Castle Lager PSL outings—a run that included four victories and five draws. This setback has left Mapeza’s expensively assembled charges in third position on the log standings, trailing five points behind the early pace-setters, CAPS United.
