Zimbabwe: No one gave Simba Bhora a chance—Mpofu

Simba Bhora FC coach Mandla Mpofu says nobody gave them a chance to overcome Scottland FC 2-1 in the top-flight league of Zimbabwe on Sunday, 3 May 2026.

During the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) match, veteran Khama Billiat gave Scottland FC the lead in the ninth minute, only for Simba Bhora’s McCartney Nwaseb to cancel it out in the 52nd minute before finally snatching the lead with Harisson Masin’s 82nd-minute goal.

Reflecting on the match in a post-match interview with his club’s media, Mpofu of Simba Bhora attributed the victory to a combination of luck and efficiency in the final third.

Mpofu Reflects on Simba Bhora’s Shock Win Over Scottland

“These are three precious points,” said the coach. “When we came into this game, no one gave us a chance. We were playing the defending champions with a lot of quality.

“We didn’t start well. We had mixed results, but for the last two games, scoring five goals in two games gave us a little bit of motivation. We came here looking for—at least I would be honest—that if I had taken a point, I was not going to be disappointed as a coach. On a good day, Scottland could have punished us. They really got good opportunities to kill off the game.”

Mapeza conceded Scottland FC defeat

In a separate post-match interview, Scottland FC coach Norman Mapeza rued missed scoring opportunities as having contributed to the defeat.

“Look, these things do happen in a game of football. I knew that such a day would come, but what is important is that when you fall, you must get up. Those two opportunities that we missed in the first half, sums up everything,” said the coach.

The first loss in 10 games that include four wins and five draws, leaves Mapeza’s expensively assembled charges in third place in the standings, five points adrift of leaders CAPS United.
