U-20 Women’s World Cup (Q): Ghana secures eighth consecutive qualification

Ghana’s U-20 Women’s national team qualified for the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup despite a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Uganda at the FUFA Stadium in Kampala on Saturday.

The Black Princesses came from a goal down to claim a 2-1 victory in the first leg at the Accra Sports Stadium last weekend.

The 1-1 score line in Kampala effectively secured a 3-2 aggregate victory, booking qualification for the FIFA World Cup.

Uganda shocked the visitors early in the game by taking the lead in the sixth minute. However, Ghana responded strongly in the second half, with Linda Owusu Ansah finding the equaliser in the 78th minute, a goal that sealed qualification.

The victory extended Ghana’s qualification record in youth women’s football to eight consecutive appearances at the U-20 Women’s World Cup finals.

The 2026 edition of the tournament will be staged in Poland later this year.
