Player of the Match awards have been introduced in Zimbabwe’s Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (Zimbabwe PSL) midway through the 2026-2027 season.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Zimbabwe Premier League (ZPL) spokesperson, Kudzai Bare, announced that the accolade carries USD $200 cash prize, courtesy of LuckyBets’ sponsorship.

“The Premier Soccer League and LuckyBets are pleased to announce a partnership that will see the introduction of the LuckyBets Player of the Match awards for the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League fixtures,” reads the statement.
“The initiative is meant to recognise, celebrate and reward outstanding individual performances while contributing to the continued growth and professionalisation of the league.”
The ZPL has since explained that members of the media covering a particular game will be responsible for selecting a standout player. Elsewhere, fans vote for top performers for each match.
“Under the partnership, each Player of the Match will receive a cash prize of USD $200, with winners determined through a structured voting process conducted by members of the media covering each fixture,” adds the statement.
ZPL says the awards of the standout performers in each match is with effect from this weekend’s Castle Lager PSL fixtures.
“This collaboration reflects a shared commitment by both PSL and Lucky Bets to elevate the standard of football by placing greater emphasis on excellence on the field of play,” adds the statement.
The USD $200 cash price is slightly lower than an estimated USD $300, which a best player pockets in South Africa’s PSL fixture.
Despite playing eleven rounds of games without Man of the Match accolades, Zimbabwe players’ union named Scottland FC’s Khama Billiat as Player of the Month March. Kelvin Kaindu of HardRock FC scooped Coach of the Month crown for April.
In another development, ZPL has commended supporters for ensuring a violence free Harare derby between 2-1 winners CAPS United and Dynamos FC at Rufaro Stadium on Sunday.

Following the victory on Sunday, CAPS United bounced back to the Castle Lager PSL summit, taking their tally to 25 points from 11 games, one point ahead of HardRock FC who had displaced them temporarily on Saturday.
