Lookman on target as Atletico sink Osasuna

Nigeria international Ademola Lookman returned among the goals as Atletico Madrid secured a hard-fought 2-1 win against Osasuna in a LaLiga fixture at Pamplona on Tuesday.

Diego Simeone made four changes to his Atlético side as the Colchoneros traveled up to Pamplona to face Osasuna in the final midweek round of the 2025-26 season in LaLiga.

With LaLiga’s title clinched and Atlético mathematically qualified for the UEFA Champions League again next season, Simeone named a strong side anyway amid eight first-team absences for Atleti’s penultimate away day of the campaign.

Lookman scored from penalty spot

He looked on as Ademola Lookman and Alexander Sørloth delivered a 2-1 victory for the beleaguered visitors, who provisionally moved within three points of Villarreal for third place in LaLiga.

Referee Jose Luis Guzman Mansilla awarded a penalty – after a lengthy VAR review on Javi Galan’s handball inside Osasuna’s box – and Lookman crisply fired home his eighth goal in all competitions since joining from Atalanta in January.

Lookman’s defensive work has improved in recent months; he won three of four ground duels in the first half. His footwork allowed him to navigate out of tight spaces and start counterattacking moves; in a post-Griezmann future, he’s going to be looked at as one of the solutions.

He joined Atlético Madrid from Atalanta in January 2026 for a reported €35-40 million, quickly becoming a key attacking figure.

By mid-May 2026, he has scored eight goals in all competitions, including crucial goals against Barcelona in the Champions League and a recent penalty against Osasuna.
