Nigeria forward Ademola Lookman has faced criticism for his missed opportunity for Atletico Madrid against Arsenal during their first semifinal of the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday.
Arsenal truck first when Viktor Gyokeres blasted us into the lead just before half-time after being brought down in the box, but after a period of pressure after the restart, Julian Alverez also netted from 12 yards to level things up.
However, with Atletico trailing 1-0, Lookman had a great opportunity to level matters in the 56th minute but he failed to score allowing David Raya to make a save.
“He could have done better. There was a great save that was pulled. Whenever he is taking the shot from such pressure, he has to think a little quicker,” Modise stated as quoted by Allnigeriasoccer.
“I think he could have maybe chosen a better side away from the goalkeeper to force the goalkeeper to make the brilliant save.
“The shot that he had were not far off Raya to make the stop but those are the dangers that he also possesses.”
Speaking about the game, Diego Simeone rued missed opportunities created by Antoine Griezmann and Lookman.
He said: “The first half was evenly matched – maybe they had more possession, but they didn’t create many chances. We were better than them in the second half.
“They eased off a bit, and we got our organisation together. We were better at the back and created chances through [Antoine] Griezmann and [Ademola] Lookman.”
Lookman was making a return to Atletico starting XI after missing the last two league matches due to injury concerns.
