UPL: KCCA chase Vipers as Villa, NEC eye crucial midweek victories

The race at the top of the 2025/26 Uganda Premier League continues on Wednesday with title contenders KCCA, SC Villa and NEC all targeting vital victories as the campaign edges closer to the finish line.

KCCA attempt to gain ground in title race after Vipers slip up

Second-placed KCCA FC will be under pressure to respond after leaders Vipers SC dropped more points in Tuesday’s goalless stalemate against Police FC.

KCCA travel to Bombo to face struggling UPDF FC knowing victory would reduce the gap at the summit to just three points.
The Kasasiro Boys head into the contest on 55 points and have an opportunity to reignite the title battle with only a few matches left. However, UPDF remain desperate for survival and are expected to provide a stern challenge at the Military Barracks Ground.
The army side sit third from bottom on 21 points and understand that maximum points could significantly boost their chances of avoiding relegation.
History, though, favours KCCA. The reverse fixture at Lugogo ended in a commanding 4-0 victory for the 13-time champions, while UPDF have managed only one win in the last 17 league meetings between the two sides since 2015.
Meanwhile, record champions SC Villa will be away to Mbarara City FC at Rwamwanja Stadium in Kamwenge.

Villa currently occupy fourth position with 52 points and could climb as high as second place depending on results elsewhere. The Jogoos will therefore be keen to keep pace with the leading teams as the title race intensifies.
In the other evening fixture, NEC FC host relegation-threatened Buhimba United Saints FC under the floodlights at MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo.
NEC head into the contest looking to extend their impressive unbeaten run and further cement their place in the top five. Victory could also see them tighten their grip on the chasing pack and potentially move closer to the top four should Villa stumble away from home.
For Buhimba United Saints, the stakes are even higher, with defeat certain to confirm relegation from the top flight.
