McCarthy unveils Kenya squad to face Palestine, Kyrgyzstan in June

Kenya national team Harambee Stars technical bench led by head coach Benni McCarthy has unveiled a 24-man squad for the upcoming international friendlies against Palestine and Kyrgyzstan during the June FIFA international window.

Harambee Stars will return to action during the June international window with two build-up matches lined up in Central Asia as preparations continue for the upcoming AFCON 2027 qualifiers.

Kenya will first face Kyrgyzstan national football team on June 3 in before taking on Palestine national football team on June 6. With days running out, the South African legend has unveiled the squad to start preparations for the matches.

McCarthy names five new call ups

Among the notable inclusions are five new call-ups handed an opportunity at senior national team level. Defender Deon Woodman (Wealdstone FC), winger Sammy Hena-Kamau (Hull City), forward Micah Obiero (Wealdstone FC), defender Sydney Agina (Stoke City) and goalkeeper Caleb Kramer (ADO Den Haag) have all earned places in the travelling squad.

Kenya captain and lead striker Michael Olunga has been omitted from the squad, the same as Moses Shumah, who enjoyed a great season with newly crowned Zambia Super League champions Power Dynamos.

The two matches are expected to offer the technical bench another opportunity to assess the squad and continue building cohesion ahead of a busy competitive schedule.

National Teams Coordinator Athanus Obala welcomed the fixtures, noting their importance in the team’s preparations.

“These are nice build-up matches as we continue building up for the upcoming AFCON 2027 qualifiers. The games will give the technical bench a good opportunity to further assess the team and continue strengthening the squad,” said Obala.

Goalkeepers: Byrne Omondi, Faruk Shikhalo, Caleb Kramer.

Defenders: Erick Ouma, Stanley Wilson, Sylvester Owino, Frank Odhiambo, Alphonce Omija, Deon Woodman, Rooney Onyango, Sydney Agina.

Midfielders: Richard Odada, Chris Erambo, Clarke Odour, Will Lenkupae, Austine Odhiambo, Zech Obiero.

Strikers: Job Ochieng, Mohammed Bajaber, Ben Stanley, Sammy Hena-Kamau, Micah Obiero, Ryan Ogam, Lawrence Okoth.
