Kaizer Motaung Jr breaks silence on Mosimane and Benni links

Kaizer Chiefs sporting director Kaizer Jr Motaung has broken his silence on the persistent speculation linking the club with South African football legends Pitso Mosimane and Benni McCarthy.

Naturena is a place currently defined by two contrasting realities: a long-term “2030 Vision” and the immediate, painful “rough patch” that has seen Kaizer Chiefs slip to sixth in the Betway Premiership.

As the pressure mounts on co-coaches Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef following four consecutive defeats and a CAF Confederation Cup exit, sporting director Kaizer Jr has addressed the two names that refuse to leave the Amakhosi news cycle: Pitso Mosimane and Benni McCarthy.

Professionalism Over Populism: Kaizer Jr

Speaking to Robert Marawa on 947 on Friday evening, Motaung Jr walked a fine line between acknowledging the pedigree of the two South African icons and protecting the integrity of his current technical staff.

“You’re mentioning two top individuals who’ve achieved tremendous things in their careers. It would be unfair of me to sit here and talk about coaches when we have coaches within the team,” Motaung Jr stated. “I have a lot of respect for both of those gentlemen… It’s always an honour to be associated with people like that.”

While Mosimane has maintained that no formal approach has ever been made, and McCarthy has publicly flirted with the “dream” of the Chiefs hot seat, Kaizer Jr insists the club’s current focus is on “restoring the pride and the hurt” of the nation.

The 2030 Chiefs Mandate: Seeking ‘The Best of the Best’

Despite the diplomatic stance, the sporting director left the door open to a high-profile appointment in the future. He reaffirmed that the club’s “2030 Plan” is non-negotiable and that continental football remains the primary benchmark for success.

“Chiefs is a big team. We want the best coaches—the most experienced, the highest quality,” added Kaizer Jr. “The continent is very important to us. So in terms of our strategy, continental football is a must. We want the calibre of players, personnel, analysts, and coaches who can take us to that stage.”

As the Soweto giants look to salvage their season, the question remains: Can the current duo deliver on that “2030 vision,” or will the lure of “the best of the best” finally lead Amakhosi to a blockbuster appointment?
