The Kasasiro Boys struck first in the 16th minute when Herbert Achai’s teasing free kick caused confusion in the Police box before finding the back of the net.
The hosts doubled their lead before the break through Said Mayanja, who finished off a flowing move involving Ivan Ahimbisibwe.
Police pulled one back almost immediately through Lawrence Tezikya, but the eventual victors managed the game well in the closing stages to seal an important victory that keeps them within touching distance of the leaders.
Elsewhere, Kitara squandered a chance to climb to the summit after being held to a 1–1 draw by struggling UPDF at the Bombo Military Barracks Ground. Ivan Bogere put the hosts ahead in the 70th minute from Ibrahim Makumbi’s assist, but Kabon Living rescued a point for Kitara with a penalty nine minutes from time after Shaban Muhammad was fouled in the area.
At Lugazi Stadium, NEC continued their impressive run with a 2–0 away win to heap more misery on Lugazi. Samuel Kayongo proved decisive, opening the scoring shortly after the restart before calmly converting from the penalty spot in the 72nd minute.
