Since arriving, Onyeka has featured in all four of Coventry City’s matches, with the Sky Blues maintaining a strong run of results during that period. Lampard explained Onyeka’s experience at the top level was a major factor behind the decision to bring him to the club.
“When we recruited him the playing profile was different as we are quite light on Premier League experience,” Lampard told BBC CWR.
“Not many of our players have been exposed to the Premier League, some other Championship teams have lots of exposure to the Premier League.
“So, there’s an experience about it, a knowhow in his game but he’s been a big impact on and off the pitch for us. His professionalism is really good and he’s clearly come in and helped our upturn in recent weeks.”
Ahead of their trip to face Bristol City on Saturday, the Chelsea legend delivered an update on Onyeka, who picked up a knock in the EFL Championship 2-1 victory against Stoke City at the CBS Arena last Tuesday.
“He (Onyeka) hasn’t trained much this week but he’s due to train today (Friday) so, we’ll see how is for tomorrow (Saturday).
“We’ll see how he is out there. He’s been great for us and it’s nice to see that link with the fans who respect a player who gives everything for the team and who has helped improved us.”
Coventry City will travel to Ashton Gate on Saturday as they continue their push for promotion to the Premier League.
The arrival of Frank Onyeka has added stability and experience to Coventry City’s midfield during a crucial stage of the season. The Nigerian international is known for his strong defensive abilities, work rate and tactical awareness, qualities that have helped him adapt quickly to the Championship environment. His presence has also given the team more balance in midfield, allowing attacking players greater freedom to push forward.
Onyeka previously gained valuable experience in the Premier League with Brentford, where he faced some of the best teams and players in English football. That exposure at the highest level has helped him develop the composure and understanding required to perform consistently in competitive matches. Lampard believes that such experience is extremely important for a squad aiming to achieve promotion.
Coventry City have been in excellent form recently, and the addition of Onyeka appears to have strengthened the team’s overall structure. The Sky Blues have shown improved organization in midfield, with Onyeka playing a key role in breaking up opposition attacks and helping the team transition quickly from defense to attack.
As the Championship season enters a decisive phase, Coventry City will rely on experienced players like Onyeka to maintain their momentum. If the Nigerian midfielder continues to perform at a high level and remains fit, he could become a vital player in the club’s push to secure promotion to the English Premier League.
With Coventry City aiming for promotion, the experience and consistency of players like Frank Onyeka could prove crucial in the final stretch of the season. His ability to control the midfield, win back possession and support both defense and attack makes him an important part of Lampard’s plans. If he continues to deliver strong performances, Onyeka could play a key role in helping Coventry City achieve their Premier League ambitions.
