Paris Saint-Germain and Morocco national team superstar Achraf Hakimi was recognized for his excellent season on Monday after winning Ligue 1's 2024-25 Prix Marc-Vivien Foé. The top honor in French football was given to Hakimi as the best performing African player in France's Ligue 1.

Hakimi beat out eleven other African internationals and players of African descent who were nominated for the award including:

  • Achraf Hakimi (Morocco, 26 years old) – Right back, Paris Saint-Germain

  • Lamine Camara (Senegal, 21) – Midfielder, AS Monaco

  • Amine Gouiri (Algeria, 25) – Forward, Olympique de Marseille

  • Moses Simon (Nigeria, 29) – Forward, FC Nantes

  • Yahia Fofana (Ivory Coast, 24) – Goalkeeper, Angers

  • Moussa Niakhaté (Senegal, 29) – Defender, Olympique Lyonnais

  • Eliesse Ben Seghir (Morocco, 20) – Winger, AS Monaco

  • Evann Guessand (Ivory Coast, 23) – Striker, OGC Nice

  • Himad Abdelli (Algeria, 25) – Midfielder, Angers

  • Hamed Junior Traoré (Ivory Coast, 25) – Midfielder, AJ Auxerre

  • Habib Diarra (Senegal, 21) – Midfielder, Strasbourg

  • Abdoulaye Touré (Guinea, 31) – Midfielder, Le Havre AC

Hakimi has been ever present for PSG in a historic season for the Parisian giants, who qualified for the UEFA Champions League final last week by defeating English Premier League side Arsenal. PSG are on the verge of winning a domestic treble and most importantly, are on the cusp of the continental triumph they have long desired.

Hakimi's timely finish last Wednesday put PSG beyond the reach of Arsenal in a 2-1 semifinal second leg victory at the Parc des Princes, giving PSG a 3-1 aggregate victory to set up a final clash with Italy's Inter Milan on May 31.

The 26-year-old right back is being labeled the "Best Right Back in the World" following his performances for PSG in domestic and continental competition. Hakimi has 45 appearances this season in all competitions with 7 goals and 12 assists. His attacking ability and high work rate to fulfill duties on both ends of the pitch have received worldwide recognition.

Also notable in a dominant domestic season, PSG had nine players including Hakimi named to Ligue 1's Team of the Season. Hakimi's teammates who received individual awards included forward Ousmane Dembélé, who was named Player of the Season while fellow attacker Désiré Doué won Young Player of the Season. Olympique de Marseille and Algeria forward Amine Gouiri won the Just Fontaine award for Best Goal of the season.

Hakimi will have little time to celebrate his personal accolade with PSG focused on their mission of capturing two more trophies. On May 24, they face Stade Reims in the Coupe de France final at the Stade de France before facing Inter Milan a week later at the Allianz Arena in Munich. PSG will also take part in the FIFA Club World Cup with their group stage matches beginning on June 15 against Spain's Atlético Madrid.
