Ivorian midfielder Franck Kessie has declared himself ready for Al-Ahli SC’s clash against city rivals Al-Hilal Saudi FC on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, in the AFC Elite League semi-final.

The 28-year-old is quoted by Koora News website as having said he was looking forward to the blockbuster meeting with the city rivals after not being in great shape last year in a similar game for Al-Ahli SC.

"Last year, I did not have the opportunity to prepare well with the team, but the situation is different this season, and the team has become very harmonious, and this is the reason for our excellence. We have had a great tournament so far, and we are now thinking about getting through tomorrow's match,” he Kessie is quoted as saying.

The former Barcelona FC’s Ivorian player admitted that facing Al-Hilal carries challenges as the game is a derby.

"The Al-Hilal match is very difficult, and there is always great competition in the matches we play against them. Tomorrow's match will be more difficult, as it is the semi-final of the continental championship," he said.

Al-Hilal secured the semi-final place after easing to a 7-0 win over Gwangju 7-0, joining Al-Ahli, who beat Thailand's Buriram United 3-0.
