African national teams are preparing for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), set to take place in Morocco from 21 December 2025 until 18 January 2026, as the continent’s biggest football event returns with intense competition.

The opening match of the tournament is scheduled for 21 December, with the host nation Morocco facing Comoros at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.

One of the features of the upcoming edition is the more reliance on foreign head coaches. A total of 13 national teams will be led by foreign managers, while 10 teams have opted for local coaches in their quest for continental glory.

The teams that have appointed local head coaches are: Mozambique, Gabon, Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso, Equatorial Guinea, Senegal, Tunisia, Egypt, Zambia, Cameroon and Morocco.

Meanwhile, the 14 teams coached by foreign managers are: Mali, Comoros, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Angola, Tanzania, Nigeria, Uganda, DR Congo, Benin, Algeria, Sudan and Botswana.
