With only a few days remaining before the kickoff, anticipation continues to build for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), set to be hosted in Morocco.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed an increase in the tournament’s prize money, with the total financial rewards reaching $32 million USD, underlining the growing commercial value of Africa’s flagship national team competition.
The tournament will feature 24 national teams, divided into six groups of four teams each. At the end of the group stage, the top two teams from every group will qualify directly for the Round of 16, along with the four best third-placed teams, completing the knockout-stage lineup.
CAF has distributed the prize money across all stages of the competition as follows:
Fourth-placed teams in the group stage (6 teams): $500,000 each
Non-qualified third-placed teams (2 teams): $700,000 each
Round of 16 losers (8 teams): $800,000 each
Quarter-final losers (4 teams): $1.3 million each
Semi-final losers (2 teams): $2.5 million each
Runner-up: $4 million
Champion: $7 million
Group A: Morocco, Mali, Zambia, Comoros
Group B: Egypt, South Africa, Angola, Zimbabwe
Group C: Nigeria, Tunisia, Uganda, Tanzania
Group D: Senegal, DR Congo, Benin, Botswana
Group E: Algeria, Burkina Faso, Equatorial Guinea, Sudan
