AFCON 2027: Pamoja summit set to shape East Africa’s blueprint

East Africa’s journey toward hosting the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2027) is entering a defining phase, with Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania preparing to align their plans at the upcoming “Pamoja” summit.

The high-level gathering, scheduled for next week, will bring together sports ministers from the three co-host nations to fine-tune critical aspects of tournament organization.

At the heart of discussions will be key operational matters such as visa facilitation and tax exemptions for teams, officials, and other stakeholders areas considered vital for a seamless competition.

Kenya’s Sports Cabinet Secretary, Salim Mvurya, confirmed the significance of the meeting following engagements in Nairobi with CAF Acting Secretary General Samson Adamu.

He emphasized that the summit will serve as a decision-making platform to unlock several pending issues and synchronize regional efforts.

“There are several decisions we will be making next week. The meeting will address matters such as visas, tax exemptions and many others,” Mvurya noted, underlining the urgency of coordinated planning.

Beyond logistics, the summit is expected to produce a structured roadmap that will guide preparations in the coming months, with the Confederation of African Football playing a central advisory role.

This roadmap will be instrumental in translating the historic joint bid into a functional and unified execution strategy.

Mvurya reiterated Kenya’s readiness to co-deliver the continental showpiece, pointing to a busy schedule of preparatory activities ahead.

The collaborative tone signals growing momentum among the three nations as they gear up to host one of Africa’s biggest sporting events.

Having secured the hosting rights through a landmark joint bid, the region now stands on the brink of a new chapter—one defined by coordinated action and shared ambition. The Pamoja summit is expected to mark that turning point, setting East Africa firmly on course for AFCON 2027.
