In Dar es Salaam, Azam FC will be aiming to maintain their strong run when they face Mtibwa Sugar at the KMC Complex Stadium this afternoon, with kickoff scheduled for 4:00 PM. The Ice Cream Makers head into the encounter full of confidence, knowing that a victory could significantly strengthen their bid to climb further up the standings.
Speaking ahead of the match, Azam FC head coach Florent Ibenge acknowledged the challenge awaiting his side despite their impressive form.
“We know this will not be an easy match. Mtibwa Sugar are a strong team, especially when they play at home, so we must stay focused and disciplined,” said Ibenge.
The Congolese tactician emphasised that his team’s ambitions remain clear as the season progresses.
“Our objective is clear, we want to keep pushing in the league and maintain our position. The players understand the importance of this game,” he added.
Azam FC currently sit on 37 points after 19 matches, having enjoyed a consistent campaign that has kept them firmly in contention for a top-two finish. They remain just five points behind second-placed Simba SC, and today’s match presents another opportunity to close that gap.
Ibenge further highlighted the confidence within his squad, noting their recent performances as a key motivation heading into the fixture.
“We are in good form, and confidence is high in the squad, but we must respect our opponent and work hard for the three points,” he said.
Azam’s recent form has been particularly impressive, having won all of their last five matches. Their attacking unit has also been firing, with one of their key midfielders contributing seven goals and seven assists this season, an indication of the team’s growing attacking threat.
On the other hand, Mtibwa Sugar approach the match with 23 points from 19 games, having recorded five wins, eight draws, and six losses. Their recent form has been less encouraging, with no wins in their last five matches, losing three and drawing two. Despite this, they will look to capitalise on home advantage to upset their in-form opponents.
Meanwhile, in Tanga, another crucial clash will see Coastal Union host Singida Black Stars at the Mkwakwani Stadium, with kickoff set for 6:30 PM EAT. The match is equally significant, especially for Singida Black Stars, who are also in the race for a top-four finish.
Singida Black Stars head coach Muhibu Kanu expressed confidence in his squad’s readiness ahead of the encounter, while acknowledging the challenge posed by their hosts.
“All players are fit and we have prepared well. Our match against Coastal Union is not an easy one, but we will make sure we fight to get points,” said Kanu.
Singida Black Stars currently occupy sixth position on the table with 29 points from 19 matches, having registered eight wins, five draws, and six defeats. A win today could see them edge closer to the top four, depending on other results.
Coastal Union, meanwhile, have struggled for consistency this season. They sit on 19 points after 19 matches, with four wins, seven draws, and eight losses. However, playing at home could provide them with the motivation needed to challenge their visitors.
In yesterday’s league action, Dodoma Jiji FC were held to a goalless draw by Namungo FC in a match played in Dodoma. The result sees Dodoma Jiji move to eighth place with 25 points from 20 matches, while Namungo sit ninth with 23 points from the same number of games.
As the league enters a decisive phase, today’s fixtures could have significant implications on the standings, particularly in the battle for top positions. With both Azam FC and Singida Black Stars pushing for strong finishes, all eyes will be on how they navigate these challenging encounters.
