The important win helped Simba continue their strong pursuit of league leaders Young Africans SC in the tightly contested title race, reducing the gap at the top to just two points.

Speaking after the match, Barker admitted the victory was crucial for the Msimbazi Reds as they continue to apply pressure on their rivals.

“It was a very, very important win for us. It gave us the opportunity to continue winning matches and applying pressure on the team above us,” said Barker.

“I thought it was an accomplished performance against a good team. It was not easy conditions because they are also a very direct side, but I felt we started the game well, controlled the match and were rewarded with a goal.”

Simba took an early lead through Clatous Chama before the Zambian midfielder added his second goal later in the second half to put the visitors firmly in control. Substitute Selemani Mwalimu then wrapped up the victory with a late third goal in stoppage time.

Despite the comfortable scoreline, Barker insisted the match remained difficult until the final minutes.

“The game was not over until we got the third goal. Up until then, there was always a chance they could get something and make it difficult for us,” he explained.

“But overall, I am very pleased. It was a good professional and quality performance from everybody.”

Barker also turned his attention to Simba’s upcoming CRDB Bank Federation Cup encounter against TRA United FC, warning that his side expects another challenging contest.

“TIRA are a very good team. We played against them not too long ago and it was difficult. They have also come off some good results recently,” Barker noted.

The Simba coach also reserved special praise for the club’s supporters, who travelled in large numbers to Kigoma to back the team.

“Thank you to the fans for coming out in such big numbers. I was very impressed with the support today. There were a lot of red jerseys in the stadium,” he said.

“We continue to fight for the fans because they deserve success. It is our responsibility as players and staff to give 100 percent commitment every time we wear the Simba jersey.”
