The attacking units of top-2 clubs Maghreb Fez (MAS) and AS FAR sputtered while Raja CA did just enough to move within striking distance of top spot over the weekend in Morocco’s Botola Pro.

Former Wydad AC right back Ayoub El Amloud spent most of his career supported by the red side of Casablanca but on Sunday, the former CAF Champions League winner scored his first goal for the green side. His 14th minute strike was enough for Raja was enough to edge Difaâ el Jadida 1-0 and gain the most ground of the league’s title contenders.
Head coach Fadlu Davids’ team dominated possession against their midtable opponents and now, RCA are only two points back of leaders MAS.
The leaders from Fez remain unbeaten in their last eighteen league matches but Saturday’s 0-0 draw at COD Meknes left supporters disappointed. The visitors lacked potency in the attack and the result could have been worse if not for a strong defensive effort.
It was a similar story for AS FAR in the late match on Sunday. The CAF Champions League finalists were held by hosts IR Tanger to a scoreless draw.
In the midst of a busy stretch that has seen Les Militaires play five matches in twenty days, coach Alexandre Santos will have to rotate his squad well until the Champions League final begins with the first leg at South African champions Mamelodi Sundowns on May 15.
Elsewhere, Wydad’s massive struggles continued with a 0-1 defeat at bottom half side Renaissance Zemamra. Defending champions RS Berkane, now in fifth position, will travel to face top flight newcomers and current last place cllub US Yacoub El Mansour on Monday.
