Malawi national football team coach Kalisto Pasuwa has warned the Flames that they have won the battle, but not the war against South Africa's Bafana Bafana.
Pasuwa issued the caution to the Flames after they edged Molefi Ntseki's side 1-0 on Saturday. Substitute Zeliet Nkhoma scored in the 88th minute to give the hosts the advantage heading into the second leg next Sunday in South Africa.
Reflecting on their victory, the Zimbabwean insisted that it is too early to celebrate. "This is just the first half. We need to remain focused to finish the task in South Africa," he told the media.
“I’m happy that the players followed the tactical instructions. South Africa were playing deep, but tried to catch us on the break. Credit to the boys — they stayed alert and dealt with it well. In the second half, we increased our presence in the attacking third and eventually got the goal.”
The winners of this round will qualify for the CHAN finals hosted by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania in August.
