A top-flight club, coach and player have been fined a total of $10,000 for their involvement in skirmishes that marred recent games.
A statement from the Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League (PSL) communications and media liaison officer, Kudzai Bare, confirms the punishment of the Chicken Inn FC player, George Majika, and Dynamos FC coach Saul Chaminuka.
The league’s disciplinary committee found the midfielder guilty of having a hand in the abandonment of Chicken Inn FC’s league match against Scottland FC at Rufaro Stadium on 23 May 2025.
“The club was fined US$5000, with the match awarded to Scottland FC on a 3-nil scoreline. Additionally, George Majika was sanctioned for his role in the incident and fined US$1000,” the statement states.
In a separate ruling, the league governing body also found Dynamos FC guilty of causing the abandonment of their match against FC Platinum at Mandava Stadium on 22 June, 2025.
“Consequently, the club has been fined a sum of US$ 5,000 and the match was awarded to FC Platinum on a 3 nil scoreline. Furthermore, Dynamos head coach Saul Chaminuka was also held responsible for his conduct during the match. He has been fined $4000 and banned from occupying the technical bench for the club’s next two matches,” the statement concludes.
During the match in question, hell broke loose after Scottland were awarded a penalty in the 90th minute for an alleged handball by a Chicken Inn player.
With the game goalless, Chicken Inn veteran coach Joey Antipas and most of his backroom staff walked off the pitch in protest. A few of his players remained on the pitch.
In reaction, Chicken Inn fans started pelting onto the pitch before armed police intervened to quell the situation.
Efforts to continue the match did not bear fruit after a 30-minute wait, leading to its postponement.
