Frank Onyeka role in Coventry City promotion success explained

Coventry City head coach Frank Lampard has revealed the kind of role Nigeria forward Frank Onyenka played to help the club secure direct promotion to the Premier League for next season.

The Super Eagle joined the Sky Blues on loan from Brentford during the winter transfer window and was instrumental for them over the second half of the season.

‎Lampard highlighted Onyeka’s influence in stabilising midfield during the decisive stage of the season. His presence added structure, discipline, and energy as Coventry surged toward promotion.

Onyeka was profile of a player we needed

“Frank has been brilliant. He was a profile of a player we needed in that moment and he’s come in and given us everything we need, which has really helped the balance of our midfield with what Grimesy does and whoever plays in that 10, how they play,” Lampard told talkSPORT.

‎“The other thing he (Onyeka) has offered is an incredible humility and work ethic.

‎“He’s come in and just breezed into the squad and the dressing room and he’s come down from the Premier League as an international player and he is so humble.

“I love that and it’s good for some of our players to see what that looks like.”

Since his move to Coventry, Onyeka made 14 league appearances, scoring once and providing one assist.
