Ghana Football Association president Kurt Okraku has clarified issues surrounding the broadcasting rights for the coverage of the Ghana Premier League.
The FA has been on the market combing for new broadcasting partners to telecast the domestic top flight following the contract expiration of StarTimes after the 2023/24 season. A backlog of debt by StarTimes pegged in the region of $950,000 forced the FA to decide against renewing the contract after weeks of talks failed to reach a suitable conclusion.
Okraku has confirmed that a new broadcast partner for the Ghana Premier League will be unveiled soon following the termination of the FA’s contract with Chinese broadcaster StarTimes.
"Our Premier League is interesting enough to attract TV partners, and we will announce a new partner soon," he told GHOne TV.
“We have ended our partnership with StarTimes. They owe the GFA $950,000.”
The FA in the interim has spread the coverage of the premier league and the FA Cup to local television stations including AFA TV, Adom TV, Net2 TV, Metro TV, Original TV and Globe TV pending the search for a substantive broadcasting outlet.
