Kenyan Premier League giants Gor Mahia coach Charles Akonnor has warned their rivals AFC Leopards that it will not be easy for them to dislodge them as FKF Premier League leaders in the current season.

K’Ogalo and their bitter rivals Ingwe are in a neck-to-neck race for the 2025-26 Premier League title. So far, Gor Mahia are leading the pile with 57 points, two less AFC Leopards, who are placed second.

Ahead of Gor Mahia versus Tusker fixture, the Ghanian legend has maintained they are prepared to protect their lead until the end of the season.

Gor Mahia will not allow to be displaced

“But for us, we know that AFC Leopards is doing a lot of things in their power to overtake us, but that will be a difficult one. We will not allow that because we’ve worked so hard to get here,” Akonnor told the media.

“I know they’ve also done that. But we’re looking at ourselves, what we’ve done, what we’ve achieved. This year, we’ve done a lot of work where we’ve not lost a game.

“And the confidence of these boys, the way they process things and everything has been good. And so, we are very confident. But of course, confident at the same time aware of watching yourself, watching, have a corner eye to see what is going on at your back and everything.”

Gor Mahia have plan to face Tusker

On facing Tusker in a mid-week fixture on Tuesday, he said: “We managed it. We changed the style of play. We went to Shabana. The field was also not too good. We changed our style of play.

“We got a nice result. And we’ll do that with this. Yes, we’re a team that likes to play. We want a better field to play. How we were taken there, I don’t know. I don’t know why.

“It’s very, very strange. But we’ll manage it. And we’ll get the next results. I’m confident about that. And for that matter, we’ve started psyching the boys. We’ve been telling them exactly what to do.

So, we have a plan for how to approach this game. We will do it effectively, and we’ll get the next results.”

While Gor Mahia are placed top, Tusker are lying 10th with 37 points from 26 matches.
