Kenya national team Harambee Stars failed to make their dominance count after settling for a 0-0 international friendly draw against Chad at Stade de Marrakech on Saturday.
From the first whistle, it was Kenya who looked the better side but their lead strikers William Lenkupae, Adam Wilson and Moses Shumah, were not able to convert the many chances that came their way.
In the sixth minute of the game, Wilson created a good chance for Shumah, who was standing alone in Chad’s dangerzone, but the Kakamega Homeboyz forward squandered the opportunity after shooting straight to the hands of Chad goalkeeper Jourdain Mbaynassem.
Mbaynassem was once again called upon to keep Kenya at bay, making two fantastic saves to deny Lenkupae, and then Shumah. Kenyan goalkeeper Brian Bwire remained untested in most parts of the half, only making one save in the 36th minute when Sindou Yéo’s shot hit his legs before rolling out for a corner.
Kenya were the dominant side even in the second period, with substitute Austin Odhiambo watching helplessly as his effort from a free-kick was saved by Mbaynassem.
The two sides will face off again on Tuesday at the same venue. Kenya under Benni McCarthy used the friendly as part of their preparations for the 2024 CHAN tournament that they will co-host alongside Uganda and Tanzania.
