After a brilliant performance that saw him power Morocco’s U-20 to the 2025 FIFA World Cup title in Chile, young defender, Ismaël Baouf has equally been a standout performance for Dutch Eerste Divisie side SC Cambuur.

He marshaled the back line as Morocco produced a top of the roof performance to beat Argentina 2-0 in the finals in Chile to equal the record long held by Ghana from the 2009’s feat in Egypt.

The 19-year-old has played an instrumental role in the Yellow-Blues’ promotion to the Dutch Eredivisie where he has clocked an impressive statistics.

The gangling centre-back has racked up 24 matches, scoring six goals with one assist as Cambuur booked their spot in the top flight next season after three failed attempts.

More than just a promotion, SC Cambuur’s success symbolizes a true rebirth that is hinged on a clear project, built on youth, intensity, and a strong playing identity.

Within this team, Ismaël Baouf stands out as one of the key figures driving this dynamic, embodying this new generation capable of turning a match around with their commitment and consistency.

Born in Belgium, he represented them at various youth levels before switching to wear the Moroccan jersey, going on to notch 17 games.

Under contract with Cambuur until 2028, Baouf is already attracting the attention of several major clubs including AFC Ajax, PSV Eindhoven, AZ Alkmaar, Feyenoord and Bundesliga side Borissia Dortmund who are reportedly monitoring his progress.

The promotion to the Eredivisie will significantly boost his market value as Cambuur look set to cash in on the young Moroccan in the next transfer window.

The enterprising defender has earned a call up to the Morocco senior team for their two international friendlies against Ecuador and Paraguay this month.

The Atlas Lions will square off with Ecuador on March 27 in Madrid, Spain before battling Paraguay four days later in Lens France.

Cambuur confirmed their return to the top flight of Dutch football with a 4-2 victory over FC Emmen on Tuesday March 24, marking the end of three seasons in the Dutch second tier.

They sit second on the Eerste Divisie table with 73 points, four behind leaders ADO Den Haag from 33 games, with three matches to end the season.
