Jupiler Pro League Recap: Fall puts La Louvière relegation fight on his shoulders

Expectations for RAAL La Louvière were low upon their promotion to Belgium’s top flight Jupiler Pro League for the current season but loan signing Pape Moussa Fall is doing all he can to help the club survive in the top flight.

The 21-year-old Senegalese forward was involved in all three goals as his club secured only their second away victory of the season in Sunday’s 3-1 victory at Cercle Brugge.

An early penalty kick set the visitors on the right path in the 6th minute. La Louvière maintained their high level in the second half, with Fall assisting Joel Ito in the 59th minute before a devastating counter-attack ten minutes later ended with the FC Metz loanee’s finish courtesy of an assist from Jerry Afriyie.

It is a massive victory in a relegation “six-pointer” that moves them past Cercle Brugge into 13th place, only one point away from escaping a place in the relegation playoff. The bottom four clubs qualify for a playoff with the last place finisher set to play the winner of the second tier Challenger Pro League’s promotion playoff.

Fall has eight league goals this season and eleven in all competitions, making the 2025-26 season his most prolific in a young career. The graduate of Senegal’s famed Génération Foot academy previously spent loan spells with RFC Seraing in Belgium before his ongoing successful time with La Louvière.

Zakaria El Ouahdi: Best player in Jupiler Pro League this season?

Zakaria El Ouahdi continues to be one of the hottest commodities in the Belgian top flight. The Olympian with Morocco in 2024 scored the only goal of the match in KRC Genk’s 1-0 victory over Sint-Truiden on Sunday.

Receiving a brilliant assist from Robin Mirisola, the 24-year-old attacking fullback finished for his third goal in four matches. It has been an outstanding stretch of performances from El Ouahdi, who will next attempt to help Genk qualify for the UEFA Europa League quarterfinals this week after scoring the only goal in their 1-0 first leg victory at home against German Bundesliga club Freiburg.

The Moroccan now has 10 goals and 3 assists in 34 matches across all competitions. Genk continue to push for a place in the championship group and will need another victory to secure a top-6 position. With one match left, they are one point behind KAA Gent for the final championship group place in 7th position.
