Asante Kotoko striker Kwame Opoku has said that he was waiting in earnest for another senior call up to the Ghana national team.
The former USM Alger forward is one of three players from the Ghana Premier League to join the Black Stars for the Unity Cup in London alongside Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Benjamin Asare and Nations FC defender Razak Simpson.
Ahead of the trip to England, Opoku disclosed that he was expecting the call up following his form in the Ghanaian top flight.
"Looking at the call up, it is something I have been waiting for because when we started the second round, I was doing quite well so I was expecting it. When I received the invite I was very excited," he told Max TV.
The forward has been in fine form for the Porcupine Warriors since making a return to the side with ten goals in eighteen appearances this season. He has been instrumental in Kotoko’s smooth run to the FA Cup finals where they will face Division One League side Golden Kicks on June 15 at the Legon Stadium.
The Kotoko striker last played for the Black Stars in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against South Africa for the 2021 edition in Cameroon.
