Former captain of Bordeaux, Lamine Sane has been appointed head coach of the Senegalese U17 national football team, replacing Pape Ibrahim Faye.
The 39-year-old will lead the team at the U17 Africa Cup of Nations, from May 13 to June 2, 2026, in Morocco.
During his playing days, he was known to be a tough defender but he will now be discovered as a coach.
Sane, who won the 2013 Coupe de France with Girondins de Bordeaux, “was appointed head coach of Senegal’s U17 men’s national team on Sunday, April 19,” the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) announced.
Six years after the end of his playing career at FC Utrecht, the former Teranga Lions defender who is capped 28 caps, from 2010 to 2015, is embarking on a new chapter and will experience his first time on the sidelines.
The Africa Cup of Nations for this age group is coming up next month in Morocco, from May 13th to June 2nd, 2026, and the objective will be nothing less than to reclaim the trophy.
