Libyan Premier League: Al Ahly Benghazi lead qualified trio as foggy finale ends Group 3 race

The final round of Group 3 in the Libyan Premier League delivered drama, goals, and extreme weather conditions, as Al Ahli Benghazi, Al Hilal, Al Ittihad Al Askari confirmed their place in the championship round.

At Al Wadi Al Kabir Stadium, Al Ahly Benghazi beat Al Sadaqa in a match that was heavily affected by dense fog and torrential rain, significantly limiting visibility. Despite the conditions, Al Ahly Benghazi broke the deadlock in the 27th minute through foreign striker Daniel Marino, before Mohamed Wanes added a second goal to seal the win. The result lifted Al Ahly’s tally to 33 points, while Al Sadaqa remained on 19.

At Al Marj Stadium, Darnes SC edged past Al Anwar 1-0. After a goalless first half, Njeel Alexander netted the decisive goal early in the second half (47’). Darnes concluded their campaign with 20 points, while Al Anwar, stuck on 11, were officially relegated.

Meanwhile, at Martyrs of Benina Stadium, Al Hilal Benghazi claimed a dramatic 2-1 win over Al Suqoor. Kone gave Al Hilal the lead with a header in the first half, before Younes Al Sawi equalized for Al Suqoor in the second. However, a stoppage-time winner from Anas Al Musrati in the 97th minute secured all three points for Al Hilal, who finished on 34 points. Al Suqoor, with just 10 points, were relegated.

In another fixture, Al Ittihad Al Askari came from behind to defeat Al Burooq 2-1. An own goal handed Al Burooq the lead in the first half, but Zakaria Al Mansouri equalized in the 58th minute before Ahmed Al Maqsi struck a late winner in the 92nd minute.

Following the conclusion of matches, the three teams advancing to the final six (championship round) are:

  • Al Ittihad Al Askari (35 points)
  • Al Hilal Benghazi (34 points)
  • Al Ahly Benghazi (33 points)

Relegated to the First Division are:

  • Al Suqoor
  • Al Anwar
  • Al Burooq
