Simba SC head coach Fadlu Davids has warned his players against complacency despite delivering a statement 5-0 Mainland Premier League victory against KenGold FC at the Ali Hassan Mwinyi Stadium in Tabora on Wednesday.

A brace from Kibu Denis, and strikes Lione Ateba, Elie Mpanzu, and Jean Ahoua were enough to help the Msimbazi Reds register their fifth consecutive league win and kept them close with rivals Young Africans (Yanga SC) at the top of the table.

Yanga, who are currently leading the 16-team league table, defeated Tanzania Prisons 5-0 in at Sokoine Stadium in Mbeya on Wednesday.

“I think we still have to do the job, do the right things, and execute our principles with the ball and without the ball. It was important to keep the intensity high because we’ve got two matches ahead of us before the end of the season, and you want to have the right intensity for the minutes you’re going to play,” said Davids, as quoted by the Guardian.

“Each player needs to be able to give his best, and I think that’s what we’ve done today. Now we have a few days before facing Kagera Sugar. After the match, we will return to camp and then focus on recovery in preparation for Kagera Sugar.

“We know it’s not only Kagera we must think about, we also have to prepare for the Yanga match afterwards. Recovery and freshness are important, and the players selected must do the job.”

On the display by KenGold, he said: “KenGold FC tried, like I said, it’s a team that is already relegated, but their players were playing for individual recognition, and that’s what we saw today. It was important for us to maintain our own standards and not drop to their level.”

The victory leaves Simba in second place with 75 points from 28 matches, just one point behind Yanga, who have 76 points after the same number of games. Simba will face Kagera Sugar on June 22, before wrapping up the season with the eagerly-awaited Kariakoo derby against Yanga at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium on June 25.
