Lookman shares ‘amazing feeling’ after ousting Barcelona

Nigerian wonder boy Ademola Lookman has reacted after helping Atlético Madrid secure the 2025-2026 UEFA Champions League semifinal spot via a 3-2 aggregate score on Tuesday.

In a post-match reaction with TNT Sports TV as shared by UEFA website, the Super Eagles star could not hide his excitement after playing a decisive role in the quarterfinal, second leg result to eliminate FC Barcelona from the competition.

“It was amazing,” Lookman said. “Hard to really say. Nice atmosphere. I wouldn’t say it was pressure. Just the occasion. It is great to be involved in the show.”

Lookman on quarterfinal pressure

The former Atalanta FC forward reflected on the challenge of coping with such a high-profile UEFA Champions League game against a Barcelona side boasting stars such as Yamine Lamal.

“I think pressure is what comes with being at this stage, being in this competition and coming up against these types of teams, which is amazing,” the former Atalanta FC man explained.

“The tempo in terms of the way the ball moves, just playing your game. Trying to enforce your game on the game, being with the team-mates. We stuck together, and in the end, we got the result we wanted.”

Atletico Madrid sneak through to semifinal

Having beaten Barcelona 2-0 in the quarterfinal, first leg at the Camp Nou last week, Diego Simeone’s wards were under immense pressure in the return leg.

The game seemed to be spinning away from the hands of the hosts after Lamal scored barely after four minutes into the game. Ferran Torres added the second goal 20 minutes later to give Barcelona a 2-0 lead on the night and two-all in the context of the two legs.

However, Lookman had other ideas at Riyadh Air Metropolitano Stadium. The Nigerian scored what proved to be a tie breaker for Atlético Madrid in the 31st minute.

The consolation strike helped the hosts to sneak through to the Champions League semifinal.
