Ghana Premier League: Medeama faced with must win situation

Medeama SC are faced with a must win situation to stand a chance of maintaining the top position on the Ghana League table when they host Hohoe United in a week 25 fixture on Sunday.

The Mauve and Yellow’s lead is under threat as they sit on top of the log with 46 points, just two points better than reigning champions GoldStars from 24 matches.

Medeama must win to maintain lead

Ahead of Medeama’s important home game against Hohoe United, head coach Ibrahim Tanko praised the players’ commitment.

“Very very committed. I mean and when you look at even the two away games we play normally, if it is first around people will say we did very well because these are tough games we play in away and we didn’t lose.

“So, definitely against Hohoe I cannot say it’s a must win. We have to get our three points at home. But we are not going just like we just have to win,” he told Medi TV.

“We have to control the game. We have to also be careful because they drew in Dormaa and then win their home game. So definitely they are coming with confidence. But I think our boys are very ready and they know what is at stake. So definitely we will prepare very well against Hohoe United.”

Medeama have struggled to find the back of the net and Ibrahim Tanko has expressed worry about the strikers’ goal drought.

“No, of course it’s worrying if the strikers and the midfielders are not giving you the goals you need. But I think and we are playing as a team like I said and definitely and we have to work on our scoring chances,”

“We prepared the ball very well to the last third but conversion was really poor but I think this week we are working on it and hope that and this weekend will be better.”

Medeama have 46 points, one point better than reigning champions GoldStars with Hearts of Oak in third on the league table.
