Moallin speaks on Yanga’s teamwork and dominance after Coastal Union victory

Young Africans SC interim coach Abdi Hamid Moallin praised his side’s teamwork, pressing, and second-half improvement after guiding the defending champions to a convincing 3-0 victory over Coastal Union FC in the NBC Premier League at KMC Complex.

The win on Saturday strengthened Yanga’s position at the top of the league table with 54 points as they continue their strong push to retain the league crown this season.

Speaking after the match, Moallin expressed satisfaction with the overall performance of his players, highlighting the team’s organisation, ball control, and tactical discipline throughout the encounter.

“We had a great team performance tonight. There were many positives from the game, especially our teamwork and the way the players applied the ideas we wanted to see on the pitch,” said Moallin.

“We wanted to dominate the game and make the opponent work hard without the ball, and I thought we managed to do that in many moments of the match.”

Yanga started the match aggressively, controlling possession from the opening minutes and constantly threatening the Coastal Union defence with quick attacking movements.

Their pressure paid off in the 18th minute when Allan Okello opened the scoring after calmly finishing a well-worked move created by striker Prince Dube.

Despite conceding early, Coastal Union remained disciplined defensively and managed to keep the score at 1-0 heading into halftime.

Moallin, however, revealed that he demanded more intensity and quicker forward passing from his players during the second half, especially after noticing spaces left open by the visitors.

“The second half was much better for me in terms of possession and controlling the game. We needed to play forward quicker because the spaces were there, but sometimes we were not making those passes,” he explained.

Tactical Changes and High-Pressing Power Yanga SC to Dominant Victory

The interim coach also credited tactical adjustments made after the break, including pushing more players forward and allowing the fullbacks to advance higher up the pitch.

“We added an extra body going forward to create more options, and that helped us progress the ball better and push our fullbacks higher. That improved our attacking play,” he added.

Yanga doubled their lead in the 62nd minute through Allan Okello, who fired home from a cross delivered by Pacome Zouzoua.

The hosts sealed the victory in the 75th minute when Maxi Nzengeli scored the third goal after another fine assist from Okello, who was later named Man of the Match after directly contributing to all three goals.

Moallin also praised his team’s pressing and ability to recover possession high up the pitch, insisting Yanga must continue building on the performance in the remaining matches of the season.
