‘Best in the PSL’ – Rele Mofokeng makes bold claim about Pirates teammate

Orlando Pirates starlet Relebohile Mofokeng has made a bold declaration regarding his teammate Oswin Appollis, labelling the attacker as the “best player in the PSL.”

The high praise came shortly after the Buccaneers’ dominant display on Saturday, where the duo once again proved why they are the most feared partnership in the country. Appollis, who found the net courtesy of a Mofokeng assist, walked away with his fourth Man of the Match accolade of the campaign, further justifying the hype surrounding his move to the Soweto giants.

Pirates Reclaim the Summit

The Buccaneers made a loud statement at the Orlando Amstel Arena, dismantling AmaZulu FC 3-0 in an emphatic performance that saw them reclaim the top spot in the Betway Premiership.

The onslaught began early when Tshepang Moremi turned provider for Yanela Mbuthuma, who headed home the opener in the 14th minute. The lead was doubled late in the first half when Appollis showcased his signature flair, cutting in from the left to fire a clinical strike past the Usuthu keeper.

Mofokeng, not to be outdone, put the cherry on top in the 58th minute. The teenage sensation produced a moment of pure audacity, catching everyone off guard with a long-range strike to make it 3-0.

The victory keeps Jose Riveiro’s side at the summit with 58 points, two points clear of their nearest rivals, and extends their impressive unbeaten league run to eight matches.

The Appollis-Mofokeng Factor at Pirates

Following the final whistle, Mofokeng took to Instagram to share his admiration for his teammate. Posting a photo of the two together, the Bafana Bafana international captioned it:

“Best player in the PSL @oswinappollis.”

The numbers certainly back up the claim. Pirates star Appollis has enjoyed a blistering start to life in the black and white, reaching 20 goal contributions (11 goals, 9 assists) in record time. Mofokeng isn’t far behind, sitting on 19 goal contributions (11 goals, 8 assists) as he continues to evolve into a world-class talent.

Eyes on the Soweto Derby

The timing of this “best in the league” debate couldn’t be better. The duo are now shifting their focus toward the biggest game on the South African calendar—the Soweto Derby.

Pirates are set to host rivals Kaizer Chiefs on Sunday, 26 April, in a clash that could prove pivotal in the race for the Premiership title. With Mofokeng and Appollis firing on all cylinders, the Amakhosi defence will have its work cut out for it in what promises to be a sold-out spectacle.
