Morocco FA welcomes and appreciates CAF decision to award AFCON 2025 title

The Royal Moroccan Football Federation has officially expressed its appreciation and welcome for the decision made by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Appeal Committee to award Morocco the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title.

In an official statement, the Moroccan FA praised the ruling, which came after the controversial final between Morocco national football team and Senegal national football team. The match, held in Morocco in recent months, witnessed dramatic events, including Senegal’s temporary withdrawal in protest of a penalty awarded to Morocco.

Although Senegal later resumed the match—during which Morocco missed the penalty and Senegal went on to win the title on the pitch—the Appeal Committee ultimately ruled in favor of Morocco, granting them the title.

Omar Khyari, advisor to the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) president Fouzi Lekjaa, said they had taken note of the decision issued by the CAF Appeals Commission.

“The FRMF would like to recall that its approach has never been intended to challenge the sporting performance of the teams involved in this competition, but solely to request the application of the competition regulations,” reads the statement.

“The Federation reaffirms its commitment to respecting the rules, ensuring clarity in the competitive framework, and maintaining the stability of African competitions.

“Finally, it wishes to commend all the nations that participated in this edition of the AFCON, which represented a major moment for African football. The Federation will officially express its position tomorrow, after convening its governing bodies.”
